British Airways to provide no-cost fast onboard internet through Starlink agreement

Flyers aboard the airline are set to use high-speed connectivity during flights without charge after a major deal with SpaceX's space provider.

No-cost and Quick Wifi Available to Everyone

The carrier stated that the free, โ€œquick and reliableโ€ connectivity offering via SpaceX is set to be accessible to customers flying coach, business, or first class from the coming month.

Broad Implementation Over Multiple Airlines

The umbrella firm of BA, IAG, announced it had finalized an agreement involving the satellite firm for providing connectivity services across over 500 jets operated by its operators, including Aer Lingus, the Spanish carrier, and the low-cost airline.

Seamless Connectivity from Boarding to Arrival

The airline explained that this introduction for the service was part of a multi-billion pound โ€œmodernizationโ€ plan that will offer lag-free internet service for travelers starting at the gate through arrival, even when traveling above large bodies of water and isolated areas.

Customers may hook up numerous electronics and do not have to use a unique password.

โ€œGamechanging for British Airways and travelers, enhancing their experience in the air with us by offering customers seamless connectivity throughout the flight.โ€

Current Connectivity Options

Basic wifi access is currently provided to BA passengers on nearly all of the airline's planes using its .air system.

Participants in the airline's frequent flyer program can transmit texts plus plain-text emails onboard without paying, whereas passengers wishing to watch audio, video, or content on their flight who are not travelling in first class can expect to be charged between four pounds ninety-nine to ยฃ21.99 for one wifi bundle.

The provider uses a system comprising thousands with satellites which is operated by Elon Muskโ€™s aerospace firm.

Latest Upgrades for British Airways

The airline's executive team are striving to turn the airline back after a period with budget reductions, IT problems, industrial action, and large-scale layoffs.

The airline stated that use of smart technology has assisted them to reach the airline's on-time performance at peak performance from 2012.

Earnings Results

In August, BA reported a jump for operating profits for the first half of this year, contributing to the parent company earnings higher.

The group is due to release the results for the quarter this summer on Friday.

Recent Satellite Agreements

This update arrives shortly following telecom provider Virgin Media O2 revealed it was partnering with the satellite provider to boost cellular connectivity in rural parts across the United Kingdom, by allowing users to seamlessly connect mobile devices through orbiting devices if there is no traditional cellular service exists.
