Congress Approves Legislation to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a reversal by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. The administration gave in after an extended period of trying to delay the joint action involving a scandal that has dogged the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House voted decisively for the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Uncover the facts. Let transparency reign.”

Future Action

The bill next heads to Donald Trump for his signature. The president indicated on Monday that he would approve the bill.

Though Trump has for months dismissed the controversy over the government’s handling of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he signalled his support for the measure over the weekend, and announced he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Support and Opposition

Democrats, along with those affected and their advocates who were watching from a public section, broke into applause after the bill was approved. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who expressed concern he worried the measure would reveal personal information of individuals involved, potential suspects and others involved in the investigation.
