Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
