Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Honours Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The central message of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
